Cultivate is an exciting new challenge to encourage some curious, self motivated young people to take an important first steps to develop their business potential. The challenge is open to anyone between 14 - 19 years of age in West Berkshire. Sponsored by RBS Inspiring Youth Enterprise and developed by Education Business Partnership West Berkshire. It is a much needed programme to give young people the chance to consider becoming an entrepreneur and to explore the possibilities in a well supported environment. They will benefit from business mentoring to cultivate their idea with the potential of winning a prize fund of £250-£500 investment in their idea and on going business support.

Ideas... young people aged between 14-19 years who enter this challenge could be thinking of designing a new App, offering a local service to benefit their community, or perhaps a gadget to make life easier or a new item of clothing or accessory.  It can be the simplest of ideas but still have enormous business potential.  They may yet have a rather unformed idea - this opportunity allows them to focus their thinking and work through the idea.

A series of short presentations are delivered across the region in January, a short video clip introducing the challenge. Applicants are invited to put forward a brief description of a business idea… just some early thoughts. Applying as individuals or in a small group.

Then two group mentoring sessions will be delivered to prepare the young people for their first pitch to a panel of business professionals.  These will be led by business mentors.  The applicants pitch will be a ‘snappy’ 5 minute presentation to introduce the business proposal. And the mentoring sessions will help them to clarify their approach and to encourage them to present themselves with a confidence.

Why get involved?

It is a competitive world – taking part will give applicants an advantage over others

They will gain some valuable business knowledge and skills

There is a prize fund of £1000 – top prize £500 and two at £250 for runners up

And who knows, they could be the next start up entrepreneur!
